"The significance of professional development and continuing education within the realm of firearm shooting sports cannot be overstated"
Each year the Barrett® Sales Team conducts an immersive week-long sustainment training course for its members. The driving force behind the class is a commitment to ensuring the salesforce maintains and enhances both their individual and team shooting and spotting skills while fostering a continuous journey of skill refinement and knowledge enrichment. This is especially useful since the teams are tasked with showcasing Barrett products to customers around the globe. “The significance of professional development and continuing education within the realm of firearm shooting sports cannot be overstated,” said Joel Miller, Barrett’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “In a field where precision, safety, and expertise are paramount, ongoing learning and skill refinement are not merely optional but essential.”
This year’s course took place from July 31st through August 4th and was led by industry expert Bryan Morgan, taking place at his Hat Creek training facility nestled in the serene mountains of Pollock, Idaho. The class began with an in-depth Kestrel® training session featuring Katie Godfrey from Kestrel and focusing on the ballistic intricacies of shooting.
At the heart of this training was an emphasis on unconventional shooting positions. Recognising that in the field one might encounter scenarios where the traditional stance is not an option, the curriculum delved deep into mastering shooting techniques that might demand lying prone on uneven terrain, utilising available resources like trees or rocks, or even shooting from a kneeling or seated position. Such proficiency in diverse shooting postures promised to equip the team with an unparalleled advantage when demonstrating Barrett’s products in real-world scenarios.
The team used Barrett MRAD® rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor using Hornady® 140 gr ELD Match ammo, along with 300 Winchester Magnum using Hornady 195 gr BTHP ammo, each paired with the Barrett AML338 suppressor. Of course, no shooting prowess is complete without the optics that bridge the gap between the shooter and the target. The Nightforce® ATACR™ 7-35 with the intricate Tremor3™ reticle ensured that precision was not just the goal but a reality.
Throughout the course, participants engaged targets up to 2400 meters, as well as high angle shots exceeding both positive and negative 30 degrees, an activity that requires a profound mastery of the equipment and an acute awareness of the surroundings.
In addition to the sustainment training activities, the marketing team took advantage of the occasion to capture new product photos and videos. However, the content created was not limited only to current MRAD product offerings. The event also provided the perfect opportunity for the sales team to gain a “first look” at a brand new product slated for official launch at the 2024 SHOT Show.
As the training came to a close, the participants were not just armed with improved skills; they were imbued with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed dedication to the expertise they had honed. They had not merely participated in a training exercise; they had engaged in an experience that would resonate in their professional journeys and contribute immeasurably to Barrett’s reputation as an industry leader.
