Unveiled for the first time at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Leupold’s new VX‑4HD series arrives as the ideal balance of reliability, performance, and price. Built around a versatile 4:1 zoom ratio, this rugged and lightweight lineup delivers an excellent field of view and generous eye relief, giving hunters a hard‑working scope that offers premium performance without the premium cost.
At the heart of the VX‑4HD is a new 4:1 erector system that delivers impressive performance without the added complexity often found in higher‑magnification designs. Built on Leupold’s Elite Optical System, it offers market‑leading low‑light capability, especially in those crucial twilight moments where low ambient light and harsh glare collide. Leupold’s signature Light Management System tackles both challenges head‑on, using advanced lens coatings and internal mechanical solutions to reduce stray light and maximise image clarity.
The VX-4HD delivers high quality feeling of control across all its adjustments, including the removable power selector throw lever, the fast focus eyepiece, and Leupold's CDS ZeroLock 2-turn dial. This dial gives you confident, deliberate inputs while preventing the scope from coming off zero when it's carried on a sling or packed in a gun bag. With its improved adjustment system, the VX-4HD offers precise tracking and positive, tactile clicks. It also includes an asymmetrical maintube, which is essentially a scalloped section around the adjustment area that provides extra travel without needing a larger maintube.
A key feature of Leupold's CDS Dial system is the ability to redeem a FREE Custom Dial engraved specifically for your rifle and environmental conditions. This takes the VX‑4HD’s performance well beyond those first 200 metres, letting you confidently stretch out to 500 or even 600 metres with minimal effort. You don’t need to be a ballistics expert — the dial does the work for you. Once your custom dial arrives and is fitted, simply turn it to your distance and hold dead on.
The VX‑4HD comes in two magnification ranges with a variety of sub‑options to suit different hunting setups. These include 3‑12x40, 3‑12x50, and 4‑16x50 models. All three are available with either standard or illuminated reticle options, giving you plenty of flexibility to pick the configuration that best fits your needs.
A personal favourite is the 3‑12x40. This model is exceptionally lightweight at just 413 grams, which is impressive for a scope as durable and high‑performing as the VX‑4HD. Its slim, classic look feels right at home on almost any hunting rifle, whether you're running a traditional wood‑stocked setup or a modern lightweight build. From there, you can add features like the CDS‑ZL2 dial or an illuminated reticle to suit your needs.
The VX‑4HD delivers outstanding value, giving you everything you could want in a high‑performance hunting scope without blowing the budget. Thanks to Leupold’s Elite Optical System, you get excellent performance in low light, twilight and full daylight. It’s lightweight, tough, reliable, and backed by modern features like advanced elevation dials and optional illuminated reticles. And as always, it’s covered by Leupold’s lifetime guarantee.
The VX‑4HD lineup will begin arriving in Australia from March to April 2026. To secure yours, get in touch with your local dealer.
