How NIOA is helping Legacy transform lives

8 March 2022

Legacy Brisbane CEO Brendan Cox visited NIOA’s Brisbane headquarters to talk to staff about the amazing work this iconic Aussie charity does caring for the families of veterans – from an eight-month-old baby to a 105-year-old war widow - and how NIOA’s partnership will support this work over the next three years.

Legacy Brisbane helps more than 5500 widows, 390 children and 185 young families.

“Our job is to go into those living rooms and see what that family’s need is,” Brendan explained. “Legacy transforms people’s lives and, in most cases, stays with beneficiaries for life. It’s relationship based.

“The Legacy-NIOA relationship is about growing the family of Legacy. This gives us assurances into the future that the services we are planning will be supported through the generosity of NIOA.”

As an Australian, family-owned business that delivers capability to the Australian Defence Force, NIOA CEO Robert Nioa said Legacy’s mission struck a deep chord with the company.

“The promise that was given all those years ago on the battlefield to look after a fallen mate’s family is a message and a cause that really resonated with us as a company and the individuals we have here,” he said.

NIOA’s sponsorship includes next month’s Run Army event, the Canungra Combat Challenge in June, the gala dinner in November as well as practical engagements by working with Legacy’s Youth Leaders through mentoring and development opportunities.
